Gad, son of Israel (Jacob) - The Man and His House

Gad (Hebrew: גָּד, Modern Gad Tiberian Gāḏ) is the seventh son of Jacob (latter named by God as Israel) with Zilpah. He is also the father of the Israelite Tribe of Gad and the Gadites.
The name Gad means "Good fortune."

Genesis 30:10-11
10 And Zilpah Leah's maid bare Jacob a son. 11 And Leah said, A troop cometh: and she called his name Gad.

The prophetic blessing of Jacob to Naphtali, prior to his death:

Genesis 49:1-2
1 And Jacob called unto his sons, and said, Gather yourselves together, that I may tell you that which shall befall you in the last days. 2 Gather yourselves together, and hear, ye sons of Jacob; and hearken unto Israel your father.

Genesis 49:19
19 Gad, a troop shall overcome him: but he shall overcome at the last.

The Tribe of Gad

The Tribe of Gad (Hebrew: שֵׁבֶט גָּד, Modern Shevet Gad Tiberian Šḗḇeṭ Gāḏ) is one of the Tribes of Israel.

Joshua 13:24-28
24 And Moses gave inheritance unto the tribe of Gad, even unto the children of Gad according to their families. 25 And their coast was Jazer, and all the cities of Gilead, and half the land of the children of Ammon, unto Aroer that is before Rabbah; 26 And from Heshbon unto Ramathmizpeh, and Betonim; and from Mahanaim unto the border of Debir; 27 And in the valley, Betharam, and Bethnimrah, and Succoth, and Zaphon, the rest of the kingdom of Sihon king of Heshbon, Jordan and his border, even unto the edge of the sea of Chinnereth on the other side Jordan eastward. 28 This is the inheritance of the children of Gad after their families, the cities, and their villages.
